Bradley Skeete aims to make it a hat-trick of KO wins when he faces Brazilian Leandro Mendes Pinto this Saturday at the York Hall, Bethnal Green.
The undefeated Penge welterweight is riding on two back-to-back stoppages. In April he stopped Italian Tobia Giuseppe Loriga in seven rounds and then in July he halted Steven Pearce in three rounds, to bring his record to six stoppages in 17 fights.
Skeete, 26, has put his new found power down to a new strength and conditioning regime involving plenty of explosive plyometric exercises and says Pinto could be his next victim.
“Since starting work with my strength and conditioning coach the results are showing for themselves with stoppage wins,” said Skeete.
“Whereas before I wouldn’t do any work with weights, we’re now starting the camp with weights for the first couple of weeks, then moving onto explosive exercises, and then finishing off the last week with sharp explosive sprints and battle ropes.
“I’ve got the technical boxing skills and that will continue improving with my trainer Alan Smith, but the biggest factor that we’re working on is improving my strength and power and that all coming together now.
“The Loriga fight was probably my best performance to date and the Pearce win last time out has been the most explosive so far, now I have to maintain that standard against Pinto and take him out,”
“He’s a strong fighter, we’ve done our homework on him and I’m looking to do a real job on him. If I can take him out inside six rounds that will be a good result for me.”
Skeete v Pinto headlines the show with Enfield ace Frank Buglioni featuring in a ten-round International contest against Bulgarian Alexey Ribchev. On the undercard top talents Tom Baker, Romeo Romaeo, Brett Beadon, Georgie Kean, Ediz Hussein, Macaulay McGowan, Louis Adolphe and Kirk Garvey all feature.
Walsh vs. Sykes Added to Fury-Chisora II Card
Another all-British blockbuster title fight has been added to the huge ExCeL card on Saturday November 29th that features Dereck Chisora v Tyson Fury and Billy Joe Saunders v Chris Eubank Jr: a showdown between Liam Walsh and Gary Sykes.
Walsh, the undefeated Commonwealth Champion, makes the fourth defense of the title whilst looking to tear the British title from Sykes who makes the first defense of the belt that he won from Jon Kays in a thriller in May.
Both boxers are desperate to get it on in the ring once and for all to prove who is the best after seeing two previous scheduled bouts fall through due to injuries.
Cromer based Walsh said, “It’s going to be a massive, massive, night at the ExCeL and I just can’t wait for it to become a double champion by winning the British title,”
“I have great respect for Sykes, he put on a tremendous performance to win the British title against Kays earlier this year and I know that it’s not going to be a walk in the park for me,”
“I’m a warrior and will fight anybody put in front of me, Sykes is the same, he’s a real fighting man and you have to nail him to the floor to beat him, but there has to be a winner and a loser and I’m not leaving the ring without the British title in my hands,”
“With Chisora against Fury and Saunders against Eubank Jnr, and now me against Sykes it’s going to be a hell of a night!”
Sykes, from Dewsbury, said, “When I heard that this was going on the ExCeL card I couldn’t have been any happier,”
“This is the right stage for this fight, a big all-British card with big rivalries all to be settled on the night,”
“I’ve just won this British title so there is no way that it’s leaving me in my first defence. Walsh is the one big rival I haven’t faced yet and we can now finally find out who is the best,”
“Chisora v Fury and Saunders v Eubank Jnr. will take some beating, but I guarantee it will be an all-out war between me and Walsh.”
Promoter Frank Warren added, “I’m delighted to add another fantastic all-British battle on the card and there will be more exciting title fights to announce in the next few days. Walsh against Sykes is a cracking fight between two of the top super-featherweights in the country and I’m sure it will live up to it’s billing. With Chisora v Fury and Saunders v Eubank Jnr confirmed and now Walsh v Sykes, the show is shaping up into a huge night of championship boxing.”
