Jean Pascal dominated his Canadian rival Lucian Bute on Saturday in Montreal. The win vaults Pascal right back into the mix at 175 lbs, and also leaves Bute in a bad spot. Considering his performance, the question of whether he should hang up the gloves for good isn’t far-fetched.
Now though, it’s time to update our top 10 light heavyweight division rankings after the bout. How high does Pascal move, and how low does Bute fall? Does Bute even remain in the top 10 in the division?
For Pascal, it’s actually hard for him to climb any higher than he is right now, without beating one of the three guys ahead of him. The loss to Bernard Hopkins, and the ongoing destructive dominance of both Adonis Stevenson and Sergey Kovalev leaves him a clear tier below those guys.
Now though, Stevenson could end up being his next opponent, in another monster Canadian showdown. But fight fans are still eager for Stevenson vs. Kovalev, more than anything else. Plenty of opportunities out there either way, that’s for sure.
