Will Wladimir put on the dominant performance we’re all expecting?

This is the third straight weekend which EPIX has televised a heavyweight title fight, as we’ve seen Vitali Klitschko vs. Dereck Chisora and Alexander Povetkin vs. Marco Huck. Povetkin escaped with a lucky decision win, whereas Vitali put on another strong showing, as is his usual style.
So what will little brother Wlad bring to the table against Mormeck? Most people are expecting this to be a one-sided affair, and with good reason. Wladimir will have a huge weight, strength and height advantage, and Mormeck has accomplished little in the heavyweight division, and little in his career period, over the past few years. For Klitschko, he not only has to win here, but he better look spectacular in the process.
5:15 pm – Alright, both guys are in the ring. Intros are being given by Michael Buffer. It’s go time in just a minute!
5:08pm – Adding to our misery, the feed from Germany cut out during the ring walks. but the German ring walks are the best part of the night! Especially when it’s Klitschko vs. Mormeck that we’re waiting on. Sheesh.
5:03pm – Right on (late) schedule, the ring walks are starting now…
4:30pm – The EPIX coverage has now begun, and if we’ve learned anything from their recent broadcasts, it’s that we all have about 30-45 minutes to waste before the actual fight begins. Hooray.
Klitschko vs. Mormeck Results
Rd 1: Fight is starting very slowly. Mormeck just kind of walking in and getting close, but not throwing much. Klitchko isn’t picking him off yet, he’s doing a lot of leaning and pushing. Klitschko throwing some lead left hooks. A Klitschko round but nothing happening.
Rd 2: The size difference is just crazy here, and apparently Mormeck literally landed 0 punches in the 1st. Mormeck already looking a bit tired. Klitschko starting to throw 1-2s from a very safe distance as Mormeck covers his head. Just again and again here. And Mormeck goes down from a right hand with about 1 minute left. Gets back on him with a lead left hook. Wlad looking energized to work for the stoppage, but picking his spots. Big right. Left hook blocked. End of round.
Rd 3: Klitschko looking for the knockout but not going crazy. Staying behind his jab. Lets go a left hook, then about five or six in a row, most of which are blocked. Mormeck just diving in with his head down and hands up to survive. Klitschko jabbing. Getting sloppy as they tumble to the canvas together. Could be a 10-8 round even without a knockdown.
Rd 4: Punch stats: Mormeck is 3 for 15 through three rounds, seriously. Cmon Wlad, get the knockout. Those 1-2s were doing the job for you. Then boom! Right on cue, a huge right hand connects, followed up by a left hook which stands him stumbling to the canvas. Mormeck tries to get up, but the ref waves it off.
Klitschko KO4 Mormeck.
Crappy fight, and we all knew that going in. Congrats to Wlad though on his 50th career KO win, a big accomplishment.
