Looking Back at Boxing’s Biggest Thanksgiving Weekend Bouts

In less than one week, the Unified Lightweight World Championship bout between Juan Manuel “Dinamita” Marquez and Michael Katsidis “The Great” and the WBC Welterweight World Championship between Andre Berto and Freddy Hernandez will join a rich list of Thanksgiving weekend world championship fights.  Marquez, Mexico’s top fighter, will be fighting for the second time for a world title on the holiday weekend in front of thousands of his adopted U.S.-based fans.  The MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nev. will host the Thanksgiving weekend showdown on Saturday, Nov. 27 which will be televised live on HBO’s World Championship Boxing.

“Warriors: Marquez vs. Katsidis,” a 12 round Unified Lightweight World Championship bout, is presented by Golden Boy Promotions in association with Marquez Boxing Promotions, and sponsored by Tecate and DeWalt Tools.  The event also features a 12 round Welterweight World Championship bout between Andre Berto and Freddy Hernandez presented by DiBella Entertainment and Gary Shaw Productions as well as a 10 round junior lightweight bout between Celestino Caballero and Jason Litzau presented by DiBella Entertainment and Square Ring Promotions.  All three bouts will be televised live on HBO’s World Championship Boxing beginning at 9:45pm ET / 6:45pm PT.
