Argentina’s Luis Carlos “El Potro” Abregu (36-1, 29 KOs) worked out during training camp at the Wild Card Boxing Club, Friday for his upcoming co-feature against Brooklyn’s Sadam “World Kid” Ali (20-0, 12 KOs) at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, NJ on Saturday, November 8. The Sadam Ali vs. Luis Carlos Abregu fight was just announced, and it will serve as the co-feature to the light heavyweight title unification showdown between Bernard “The Alien” Hopkins and Sergey “Krusher” Kovalev.
Ali vs. Abregu is a 10-round welterweight bout promoted by Golden Boy Promotions and Top Rank and will be televised on HBO World Championship Boxing beginning at 10:45 p.m. ET/PT.
Ali is certainly a highly touted prospect, but he’s never been tested. Abregu is no joke, and while he hasn’t broken through at the absolute top level, he’s nobody to be taken lightly or messed around with. He should be able to provide Ali with a stern test at the least, but he’s coming to win and not be a stepping stone. That has the makings of a great fight, especially as the co-feature to an already great event like Hopkins vs. Kovalev.
