Promoter Frank Maloney has been around a long time and has seen it all. This past February 23rd, he watched with the rest of the boxing world, the shocking upset of his prized fighter David Price (15-1, 13 KO’s) getting stopped in the second round with former two-time world title challenger Tony Thompson’(37-3, 25 KO’s) in Liverpool, England.
Maloney who has been in boxing for over thirty years enlisted the services of his most accomplished pupil in Hall of Famer and former Heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis to help guide and mentor Price as he prepared for the very important contest.
“I am looking forward to this fight”, said Maloney when reached in Liverpool during a promotional appearance for Saturday’s big show.
“Lennox Lewis working with David is a blessing. If he can take in just 25 % of what Lennox has instilled in him over the last 4 or 5 weeks, David Will be a new fighter.”
Maloney has seen his share of resurrection projects over the years knows that the events of February 23rd should not have deflated hope in Price’s aspirations to become Heavyweight champion.
“I believe that one loss doesn’t make a bad fighter. You cant make or break career off of 1 loss.” Maloney looks at Lewis, who suffered a stunning knockout loss to Oliver McCall only to come back and become one of the greatest Heavyweights of all-time. “That fight was just a derailment.”
“The viewers are in for a treat as there is more at stake in this fight.”
A Price win gets him back in line to face one of the Klitshcko brothers while Thompson would like a third crack at Heavyweight glory. Saturday’s show will also include two British title bouts pitting Darren Hamilton and Adil Anwar for the Jr. Middleweight title and a battle of undefeated Flyweights when exciting Kevin Satchell takes on Ian Butcher. This Saturday in the very same ring, Price will get his chance at redemption when he squares off with Thompson in a highly anticipated rematch that can be seen live all over the United States on Wealth TV and www.wealthtv.com beginning at 2:30 pm Eastern / 11:30 am Pacific.
