One of the rising stars in boxing, Manuel “Tino” Avila (18-0, 8 KOs), has extended his promotional contract with Golden Boy Promotions. Fresh off a strong performance against the Cuban Yoandris “El Nino” Salinas on Aug. 8, he is well on his way to world title glory.
“We are thrilled to continue working with Manuel Avila, a superstar-in-the-making in the super bantamweight division,” said Oscar De La Hoya, Chairman and CEO of Golden Boy Promotions. “Manuel proved his mettle with a hard-fought victory over former world title contender Yoandris Salinas this past August and we are confident that ‘Tino’ is ready to fight for a major title in the next year.”
“Golden Boy Promotions has guided my career in the right direction from the very beginning,” said Manuel Avila. “They have proven to me what they can to do to make me the next world champion. They are like family to me, and I am looking forward to see what we can build together in the next phase of my career.”
“I have had a long relationship with Golden Boy Promotions and I am glad to continue that relationship as we work together to continue to grow Manuel Avila’s career,” said Kathy Garcia, manager to Manuel Avila. “They have always had the best interest in mind for all their fighters and I know that with Golden Boy at Manuel’s side they will be able to make him the next super bantamweight world champion.”
Fairfield, Calif. native, Manuel “Tino” Avila has taken the local boxing scene by storm since his professional debut in 2010. Avila was most recently crowned the holder of the interim NABF Super Bantamweight Title after a standout victory against former world title contender Yoandris “El Nino” Salinas on August 8. Earlier this year, the fighter showed his power by defeating Erik Ruiz via unanimous decision on May 7. 2014 was a busy year for Avila, as he took on and defeated Enrique “Cuate” Quevedo, David “Morita” De La Mora, and Sergio “El Frio” Frias. Now the fighter will be looking for world championship gold as he enters the next phase of his career.
