Liam Davies became the new British super bantamweight champion, as he took a points win over Marc Leach at the Telford International Centre.
Leach (18-2-1, KO4) had taken the vacant title in March, where he outscored Chris Bourke, and the Salford man had also taken care of Qais Ashfaq. Davies (12-0, KO5) was making the leap into domestic title class for the first time.
Davies was cut in the opening round on the bridge of his nose, but scored an early flash knockdown to gain a foothold in the contest. The home favourite beat Leach to the punch in the early rounds, but Leach inched back into the contest with some pressure fighting as the fight went into the championship rounds. The rounds were difficult to score in the main, and, as each man took turns to impose his will on the other, the breathless contest went to the scorecards.
Scores of 118-11, 116-113, and 115-113 ensured Davies sent his home fans away delighted with an unanimous points win.

The trilogy contest on the card saw no winner, as Ijaz Ahmed (10-2-2, KO1) and Quaise Khademi (8-1-2, KO2) couldn’t be separated yet again as the pair fought to a split draw. The British super flyweight title was on the line, and, after their rematch draw last August, and Ahmed took a 115-112 verdict, with Khademi taking a 114-113 score, with a third scorecard at 114-114 ensuring the two contested a draw.
