Lewis Ritson’s clash with Miguel Vazquez has been rescheduled to October 17th, whilst Lee Selby’s IBF World Lightweight final eliminator against George Kambosos Jr will take place on October 3rd, Matchroom Boxing have announced.
Ritson, was due to face former World Champion, Vazquez on April 4th, but the show was rescheduled to June 27th, as a result of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, whilst Selby’s crunch bout with Kambosos Jr, which will guarantee a shot at Teofimo Lopez’ IBF title was moved from May 9th to July 11th, however both shows will now take place in October.
Matchroom also confirmed their July 4th card in Manchester is cancelled, although Dillian Whyte’s interim World title bout against Alexander Povektin, which formed the main event is likely to be staged behind closed doors in August, with Eddie Hearn set to host four back-to-back shows starting from July 25th in the gardens of the Matchroom Headquarters.
A statement from Matchroom read: “Tickets will be valid for the rescheduled dates in Cardiff and Newcastle or refunds will be available from your point of purchase.
“Tickets for the cancelled Manchester event will be available from your point of purchase.”
The BBBofC are eyeing a July return with strict measures to observe social distancing regulations to be put in place.
Fight cards will be limited to a maximum of five fights, whilst all attendees will be subject to COVID-19 testing 48 hours before a tournament.
In April, a statement from the BBBofC read: “Depending upon Government decisions it is hopeful that professional Boxing will commence in July 2020 and we will continue to use our best endeavours to do so and are working closely with our Promoters.
“Initially, it is unlikely that crowd attending promotions will be permitted.”
