Mateusz Masternak (35-3, 25 KOs) faces Carlos Nascimento (29-4, 23 KOs) on September 5 at the EnergieVerbund Arena in Dresden, Germany.
The former European Champion returns following a contentious loss to Johnny Muller in South Africa, where despite dominating the fight and twice dropping the hometown fighter, Masternak found himself behind on the local judges’ scorecards.
With this injustice fresh in his mind, the Polish puncher is ready to get his world title ambitions back on track with a win over the experienced Brazilian contender Nascimento.
‘’I’m still very angry and upset about what happened in South Africa,’’ said Masternak. ‘’I truly believe that one day those who have cheated me will experience it themselves. They may have stolen my victory, but they cannot steal my experience or previous achievements. I will keep moving forward!
‘’Now my focus is on Nascimento. This is massive fight for me. The WBA Intercontinental title will lift me up the rankings and bring me closer to a world title shot, which is my main goal. I’m confident I will win. I don’t expect anything special from Nascimento. I plan to overwhelm him with my speed and aggression.’’
Said promoter Nisse Sauerland: ‘’Mateusz is one of the top cruiserweights in the world. He has consistently performed at the highest level and there is no question that the he has the ability to compete with the very best in the division. He faces a tough test against Nascimento but we expect ‘Master’ to rule the ring and bring himself back into world title contention!’’
The WBA Intercontinental Cruiserweight contest comes as part of a huge night of boxing in Dresden, which sees WBA World Light Heavyweight Champion Juergen Braehmer defend his title against Konni Konrad.
