Mayweather Owes $31k in Bail Money
A hearing involving the case of Floyd Mayweather Jr., in which he’s accused of a combined 8 felonies and misdemeanors stemming from an instance in which he allegedly hit his ex-girlfriend, took her cell phone and threatened their children, took place this week. Mayweather was not required to be in attendance, and indeed, he did not show up to the hearing. The judge made some rulings on the case though that affect Mayweather and his current status.
First, Mayweather must stay away from his ex-girlfriend, Josie Harris, and not have any direct contact with her. Next, he has a week to pay bail that he owes, for a total of $31,000. Failure to comply with either of these rulings would result in serious problems for Mayweather.
Finally, he’s due back in court January 24th to actually face the eight charges. The felony charges include coercion, grand larceny, and robbery, and the misdemeanor charges include domestic battery and harassment. If convicted of all of these different charges, Mayweather would face 34 years in prison.
In terms of Mayweather and his boxing career, this delays a potential return likely even further, since nothing will be known about his real status moving forward until January or February. Meanwhile, his pound for pound rival Manny Pacquiao has been dominating the boxing news headlines, and is just days away from his big showdown against Antonio Margarito, where he could potentially win a title in his 8th weight division. The difference between Pacquiao and Mayweather, perhaps, has never been greater.
