Mayweather owes Pacquiao a cool $113,000

Floyd Mayweather has been ordered to pay Manny Pacquiao $113,000 in legal fees, stemming from his failure to show up for court depositions in 2011. The court-ordered depositions were related to the defamation lawsuit that Pacquiao’s camp had filed against Mayweather’s camp.

For most people on the planet, and even most professional boxers, a $113,000 hit would be very substantial. For example, Josesito Lopez just earned the biggest purse of his career for being sacrificed to Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. Just how big was the purse? His official earnings were only $212,500, while behind the scenes, he allegedly brought in more than that figure. Either way, it shows that in boxing, unless you’re really at the pinnacle, you don’t just get to rake in cash.

Mayweather though? He allegedly makes $3 million football bets. And even though he denied placing that wager, he can’t deny the long string of $100-$250k sports bets he has made over the past few years, publicizing them with photos of the official betting slips. Of course, we only see the wins.

His reported earnings in the last year for his two fights against Victor Ortiz and Miguel Cotto was about $85 million. So again, what’s a cool $113,000 between friends… or between your arch ringside and courtside rival?

Mayweather can just chalk it up to taking the under on a random college football game this weekend, when he should have taken the over. No big deal to him, that’s for sure.

With Pacquiao officially slated to face Juan Manuel Marquez for the fourth time this December, the more pressing piece of news regarding Mayweather and his future is who he will be fighting next, and whether or not that has a chance of happening before the end of the year. With no reliable information for that, it seems more likely that he won’t be stepping through the ropes again in 2012, which would be disappointing.
