Mayweather vs. Canelo Weights
- Floyd Mayweather: 150.5 lbs
- Canelo Alvarez: 152 lbs
Canelo was able to make weight on his first attempt, which was a major question in the minds of some. He didn’t seem too dehydrated, but he’s definitely going to pack on a ton of weight over the next night. Mayweather looked cut, as always, and came in well under the limit.
The two had a long stare down, and neither man wanted to back away. Things got a bit heated for a moment when Mayweather touched Canelo, and tried to hand him the WBC belt. Canelo didn’t understand and basically seemed ready to fight then and there, but nothing else developed.
Mayweather, like he often does at weigh-ins, was chomping away at gum. He had a big grin on his face throughout much of the festivities. As for Canelo, his eyes were a bit wide at the craziness of the scene, but he didn’t seem to be fazed. He was relaxed.
More than 12,000 fans packed the arena to catch the Mayweather vs. Canelo weigh-ins. That’s a huge throng of supporters, and would make for a massive event in and of itself, and many fans even had to be turned away. It certainly speaks to the hype and interest for this bout.
The fighters even made their way through the crowd as if they were making a ring walk for the actual fight. It was a surreal scene to some extent.
Each man had his supporters there, but Canelo was undoubtedly the crowd favorite, which isn’t a surprise at all. The crowd can’t get enough of the young Mexican superstar, but of course, the odds makers have Mayweather as the favorite to win the bout, as do most analysts.
Garcia vs. Matthysse Weights
- Danny Garcia: 140 lbs
- Lucas Matthysse: 140 lbs
Garcia actually originally weighed 140.5 lbs. But he stepped off the scales and stepped back on, and with a crowd of nervous onlookers behind him, he made weight on the second attempt immediately after.
Each man seemed calm, cool and confident. There weren’t any antics there, they were all business and ready for action tomorrow night.
