Episode 1 of Floyd Mayweather vs. Victor Ortiz 24 7 on HBO:
Even without the Guerrero vs. Maidana card airing, HBO still had some boxing action for Saturday evening. It was the premiere of the first episode of Mawyeather Ortiz 24-7. The multi-part pre-fight hype show is back on HBO, and this time it takes us back with the always entertaining Mayweather clan and team. Take a look at what happened during the episode 1 of Mayweather-Ortiz 24/7 below.
Mayweather-Ortiz 24/7 episode 1 begins with each guy answering the question of what motivates them, and why do they do it. Ortiz says, “you know what, this isn’t half as bad as my youth was”… Mayweather, sitting on a red leather chair talks with his finger tips clasped in front of his face, talks about “belief”.
Ortiz says when he looks at Mayweather, he sees a kid, one who thinks he’s god’s gift. Then we see Mayweather all in a frenzy talking about, “tell me one athlete, fuck fighter, one athlete who works harder than me”. He then storms from the camera. Mayweather’s schitck seems pretty forced at this point, but, good television nonetheless.
We’re at camp Ortiz at sunrise, and he’s working hard, and his whole team is blue collar, with seconds jobs such as driving trucks. His brother Temo is back in Garden City, Kansas, running the Ortiz Trucking company. Now we dive into Ortiz’s past about his upbringing.
Temo recalls a story of her mother asking him what he would do if she left, and he responds that she would never do that. Then she gets up and leaves, and then a few years later, their father left, and they stayed with friends for three years until being taken into a foster family.
Ortiz comes to tears thinking about Bucky guiding him and telling him he’ll be a world champion one day as he took to boxing gyms as a young teen. We’re with Mayweather now, and he gets out of his luxurious ride with 50 Cent by his side. We see 50 Cent with the gloves on messing with Floyd Sr., and the rest of the camp and family and usual suspects are all there and eager to be in the game once again.

“Why do I give a fuck about Victor Ortiz? He don’t mean shit to me.” – Roger Mayweather
After that gem of a quote, Floyd Sr. comes on screen rhyming and talking trash, and, of course, it’s time to get into the back story of Floyd, Roger and Floyd Jr. Senior says if he wins, I win, he’s Floyd Mayweather Jr., I’m senior. And he smiles.
Mayweather talks about not being where he is today without both his uncle and his father, and does some of his stand-up situps while talking trash.
Back to camp Ortiz, and a picture of Mayweather is pasted to the heavy bag as target practice. We go back to the Ortiz vs. Maidana bout, and Ortiz says he wasn’t in the right mental state before the fight, and he didn’t want to be there before it happened. After being clocked by a big right, he doesn’t remember any of the fight. Ortiz, of course, famously quit in the bout, and Ortiz says that why should I go back and study this when in my mind, it never took place.
The infamous words, “I’m young, but I don’t think I’m deserve to be beat up like this, so I have a lot of thinking to do.” Brother Temo says thank you to Marcos Maidana, because it was a blessing in disguise. Then we flash forward to Ortiz’s comeback, and his defining victory over Andre Berto in the likely 2011 Fight of the Year. Ortiz says that fight and that belt was his before the fight began, and he doesn’t care what anybody says or thinks about him.
Back to Mayweather’s house, and we dive into Mayweather’s troubles and legal issues. Mayweather says it’s, “Lies, lies, period, lies.” He says it’s “bullshit” and you just go and get the best team you can buy, and he says he has spent millions on his lawyers over the past year to 15 months. Mayweather is hanging with 50 cent, and they talk about how tight they are and how they are real friends, and are there for one another.
Then we see Ms. Jackson, his fiance, and she talks about how they met five years ago. She talks about Mayweather’s proposal, and Mayweather talks about how she is this great, strong black woman who has his back.
We’re with Victor Ortiz and his camp now. Brother Temo is in the fold now, and he oversees a lot of the details and is a pseudo personal assistant for his brother. Of Danny Garcia, Ortiz’s trainer, Victor says that he loves him and he’s his savior in boxing. Danny of course is Robert Garcia’s older brother. Robert Garcia had discovered Ortiz basically, but they began to clash, and so Victor reached out to Danny and they formed a team in 2007.
Danny Garcia talks about how his family and Robert was very mad about that, but that he loves his brother and they shouldn’t be so mad. Of course, what has to be considered is that Robert trains Brandon Rios, always feuding with his fellow Garden City, Kansas boxing brother, ortiz.
Talking about family, team Mayweather is all about family. The fighting is in the family, and so is the personal drama and everything else that goes along with them. Then we see Floyd Sr. and Jr. in a shouting match talking all kinds of trash about any and everything.
Floyd Jr. says that Roger is the best trainer, and that takes things to another higher level. Then he says nobody wants to be with Floyd Sr., De La Hoya didn’t want to be with him, and on and on. Mayweather Sr. that’s crazy I left De La Hoya! And they shout and shout and Mayweather Jr. walks away, and they continue fighting and Floyd Jr. says nobody asked you to come here. Floyd Sr. says something you better not fuck with me. Kids are crying in the background. And they argue, and Mayweather Jr. says get the fuck out of my gym!
How much of this is real and how much of this is a special inserted scene for Mayweather Ortiz 24/7 episode 1? Who knows, but it looks like a pretty heated and intense scene. Even Uncle Roger just talks Floyd Jr. by the arm and tries to walk him away calmly and take things down a few notches.
Mayweather says come September 17th I can cash out with another payday, I can retire, I can do whatever I want, I’m not hurting anybody. He says that Roger Mayweather made the Mayweather name, and he took it to the next level. And then Mayweather vs. Ortiz 24-7 episode 1 ends as Mayweather says, and mother fucker, I’m no Jr!
