Mayweather vs. Pacquiao: The Forbes Edition

Floyd & Manny Finally Going Toe to Toe… At Least in Forbes Magazines

Forbes has released their annual list of the most powerful celebrities, including actors and actresses, directors and producers, comedians, television personalities, and yes, athletes. Both Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao were able to make the cut, finally battling it out head to head versus one another, even it if is a bit more anticlimactically than fight fans would want. Where did boxing’s two superstars end up on the list, and who won this Forbes edition of Mayweather vs. Pacquiao?

The winner is… Floyd Mayweather! Mayweather ended up at #31 on the list, a good deal ahead of Manny Pacquiao at #55. Of course, if this list had been compiled in the Philippines or anywhere in Asia, surely the rankings would be a bit different.

Here’s how they stack up:

  • Mayweather: #31 on the top 100 with $65 million in earnings; ranked ahead of Pacquiao in Radio/TV category and Social category
  • Pacquiao: #55 on the list with $42 million in earnings; ranked ahead of Mayweather in Press and Web categories

They were both beat out by some other athletes. Ahead of Mayweather on the list was Tiger Woods, Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan, Lebron James and Roger Federer. Also ahead of Pacquiao were David Beckham, Phil Mickelson, Cristiano Ronaldo, Alex Rodriguez and Shaquille O’Neal.

Mayweather however earned the second most of any athlete on the list, falling just behind Tiger Woods. Of course, if the Pacquiao vs. Mayweather fight were to happen later this year as we all hope it does, their media exposure and earnings would blast off. Maybe the list provides even more incentive for “Money” Mayweather and Manny to get the list done and move to a 1-2 spot in the Forbes list, a la the Pound for Pound list.
