You didn’t think that Floyd Mayweather was just going to ride out the next 87 days without being heard from, did you? Well, less than two weeks after he began his jail sentence, his lawyers have filed an emergency motion to have Mayweather either moved to the general population of the jail, or to place him on house arrest for the remainder of the sentence.
The story was filed on ESPN.com earlier this afternoon, after being initially published by the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
According to the story, Mayweather’s physician Dr. Robert Voy visited the pent up boxer over the weekend, and found that his body had already begun losing muscle tone, as he was taking in an estimated 800 calories per day, compared with his usual 3,000-4,000 calories.
Mayweather has been in solitary, kept away from the general population for his own safety. However, as such, he’s isolated in a 7×12 foot jail cell, and receives two 30-minute breaks over the course of a day.
He’s also not drinking enough water, because he’s not allowed bottled water, and doesn’t typically drink tap water. Boo hoo, Mr. Mayweather.
The emergency motion filed by Mayweather’s lawyers basically say that if this continues, he won’t be able to fight again, as his body is deteriorating rapidly in such conditions.
“Conduct may cause, not just huge financial harm to Mr. Mayweather, but also huge emotional harm if he is no longer able to pursue his boxing career because of the deconditioning he has suffered.”
Dr. Voy chimed in:
“I am concerned about Floyd withdrawing, developing anger he cannot dissipate through the usual means of dedicated exercise and training. Boxing has been Mr. Mayweather’s life since he was a young man and we need champions of this type to continue to their natural retirement and hopefully their contributions to society thereafter.”
In other words, Mayweather has served enough of this sentence, and is ready to get out. If the politicians in the state of Nevada want to reap the financial rewards of hosting future fights which feature Mayweather, well, they better ensure that he’s physically and mentally equipped to do so. Get it?
They’re hoping he gets house arrest, but they may instead get just what they bargained for, having Mayweather sent into general population.
The court will rule on the emergency motion shortly.
