Puerto Rican superstar Miguel Cotto defends his Middleweight title against Australia’s Daniel Geale this Saturday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY, televised live on HBO Boxing. The Cotto vs. Geale weigh-in was held this afternoon, and right here, you can find the official weights for the fighters.
Cotto vs. Geale Weigh-in Results from Brooklyn:
- Miguel Cotto: 153.6 lbs.
- Daniel Geale: 157 lbs.
The big issue that everyone has been talking about with this fight is the 157 lbs catchweight. Geale was able to come in and make the weight, so that’s been handled. It’s interesting just how light Cotto is. He could be comfortably competing in the junior middleweight division.
Yet, he’s the legit middleweight champion of the world, which is why many don’t love the catchweight at all. If you’re the champ of a division, then you should be fighting people in that division at the actual weight limit. But Geale and his side obviously agreed to things for the purpose of getting this opportunity.
We’ll see if Geale seems drained, or is able to put his size and strength to good use in the ring. He certainly looks a bit gaunt but maybe he can rehydrate effectively.
Saturday’s HBO World Championship Boxing telecast begins at 10:30 p.m. Check back with us on Saturday night for our coverage of the Cotto vs. Geale results.
