“Money” to meet money as Mayweather lights up MGM Grand one last time

Floyd Mayweather will be looking to extend his unbeaten record to 49-0 at Las Vegas’ world famous MGM Grand Hotel & Casino against Andre Berto this Saturday night, September 12 – and may fight fans will be hoping he takes the opportunity to break Rocky Marciano’s own 49-0 record shortly after.

Punters would love to see ‘Money’ take on the likes of Amir Khan or even a catchweight scrap against the unbeaten Gennady Golovkin, although it is rumored that Mayweather is considering retirement after the Berto encounter.

But his father, Floyd Sr, has told Sky Sports he believes the chance to outdo Marciano’s streak will be too tempting:

“I definitely think that it’s a record that needs to be broken. I think Floyd can break it but I want to make sure he’s ready.

“I love everything my son has done in boxing. He controlled boxing. Boxing today is all about Floyd. He controls it right now today. Nobody else. Floyd controls boxing.”

Mayweather looked in cruise control against Manny Pacquiao last time out, and will surely face few problems against Berto, who despite being a two-time welterweight titlist has suffered three losses in his last six outings. Two of those defeats, against Victor Ortiz and Robert Guerrero, have come by way of unanimous decision, and with Floyd not winning via knockout since 2011, and this set to be another ‘Money’ masterclass in winning comfortably on points.

Money Meets Money

The fight will once again take place at the MGM Grand, which has become Mayweather’s adopted home, and Money himself clearly loves the casino atmosphere, having exclusively plied his trade at the MGM for the latter part of his career.

With tickets ranging from $325 to $1,500 each, many fans will be forced to watch the bout from the comfort of their own home.
