D4G promote at the Motospace Dubai Investment Park in the UAE this Friday, and some decent names are in action. Ohara Davies was due to meet former world title challenger Ismael Barroso, but that fight has now been shelved, meaning Muhammad Waseem takes the headline slot against Rober Barrera.

Waseem vs Barrera will be broadcast on IFLTV on YouTube, while ESPN+ take the USA rights and will be a twelve round WBA flyweight world title eliminator

Waseem (11-1, 8 KOs) is on a run of three straight wins since a defeat in an IBF title challenge against the excellent Moruti Mthalane in 2018, while Barrera (23-3, 13 KOs) has a loss and a no contest in his last two appearances.

Prediction: Waseem can take the win on the cards and put himself in line for a shot at WBA champion, Artem Dalakian.

Davies faces late replacement Mwangi

Ohara Davies still sees action on the bill, with Ismael Barroso having issues getting to Dubai, and he now meets Nicholas Mwangi, a Kenyan based in Dubai.

‘Two Tanks’ is coming off victory in the MTK Golden Contract, where he defeated Logan Yoon (RTD7) and Jeff Ofori (TKO6) before winning the final against Tyrone McKenna via tight majority decision.

Davies, 29, hasn’t been able to yet capitalise on that success, and has sometimes flattered to deceive, as illustrated in a flat loss to Jack Catterall at the back end of 2018, and a fortunate points win over Miguel Vazquez in June 2019.

Mwangi (10-3-1, 7 KOs) is on a run of five straight victories, his last a seventh round knockout of the previously 15-0 Sachin Dekwal in Dubai in September.

Prediction: Davies should deal with the late opponent change with ease, and can halt Mwangi before the halfway mark.

Jack clashes with Crossed

Former super middleweight and light heavyweight world champion, Badou Jack is now campaigning as a cruiserweight, and the Swede faces Maryland’s Samuel Crossed over a scheduled ten rounds.

Jack (24-3-3, 14 KOs) is 3-2-2 in his last seven outings, and has been operating at a much lower level since a split decision loss to Jean Pascal at the end of 2019.

The 38-year-old defeated the unbeaten Dervin Colina by fourth round stoppage in his last contest in June.

Prediction: Crossed  (11-1-1, 7 KOs) shouldn’t provide many difficulties, having only been past six frames once, and I expect Jack to score a knockout win before halfway.

Fielding faces Danso

Another former super middleweight world champion, Rocky Fielding returns and he has his first fight at light heavyweight, and first contest for over two years, as he takes on Emmanuel Danso (32-6, 26 KOs), also over a scheduled ten.

Fielding (28-2, 16 KOs) surrendered his ‘regular’ WBA belt to Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez in 2018, and returned in November 2019 to knock out Abdallah Paziwapazi in two rounds.

Now based in Dubai, the 34-year-old faces replacement opponent Danso, and the Ghanaian has been halted early five times in six defeats.

The 32-year-old was stopped in his last fight, in the sixth and final round against the 2-0 Bek Nurmaganbet last December.

Prediction: Fielding should seal victory in the early rounds here.

Remaining Undercard

Unbeaten Indian welterweight, Faizan Anwar (9-0, 4 KOs) should have too much for Viktor Plotnikov (33-13, 15 KOs), and can take an eight round points win.

Over six rounds, Jordan-based super lightweight Bader Samreen (3-0, 2 KOs) may need the duration to see off Digari Mahesh (5-2-1, 1 KO).

Also at super lightweight, Sameer Anwar Pandya (3-0, 3 KOs) can notch his fourth straight knockout win in his four rounder with Ramiz Mammadov (1-1).

Joshua David Ridgwell makes his professional debut, and he can take a points win over four at super featherweight against Ramazan Babayev (0-3).
