Jaime Munguia puts his long undefeated streak on the line this Saturday at Toyota Arena in Ontario, as he faces the tough Ukrainian Sergiy Derevyanchenko over a scheduled twelve rounds at super middleweight.
Munguia vs Derevyanchenko can be seen on DAZN worldwide, while Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy promote.
Munguia (41-0, 33 KOs) has seen his career stall since arriving on the scene in style in 2018, winning the WBO super welterweight title by stopping Sadam Ali in four rounds.
The Mexican made five defences, the most impressive against Liam Smith in his first outing as world champion, but a move to middleweight in January 2020 has seen seven contests against low-key opponents, although six of those have been inside schedule wins.
The 26-year-old secured one victory at super middleweight, a fifth round knockout of Jimmy ‘Kilrain’ Kelly in May 2022.
He was last seen in his homeland in November last year, knocking out Gonzalo Coria in three rounds.
Derevyanchenko (14-4, 10 KOs) is a tough customer, although his best efforts have usually resulted in close defeats.
The 37-year=old was edged by Daniel Jacobs by split decision in 2018, and he also ran Gennady Golovkin close in a points defeat a year later.
‘The Technician’ came up short in his third tilt at a world title, as Jermall Charlo took a decision win in September 2020, and he lost his comeback to Carlos Adames on the cards.
The Ukrainian returned to winning ways in July 2022, taking a ten round points win against Joshua Conley.
Prediction: The feeling in this one is that Derevyanchenko will be competitive as usual, but Munguia can use his youth and freshness to take the sting out of an early onslaught from his opponent to take a clear points win.
Mosley Jr battles Ballard
Shane Mosley Jr (19-4, 10 KOs) is on a two-fight winning run, and the son of former three-weight world champion, Shane Mosley, should take a points win over ten at super middleweight against D’Mitrius Ballard (21-1-1, 13 KOs), who was stopped by the aforementioned Munguia in three rounds in his last contest.

Remaining Undercard
Ricardo Sandoval (21-2, 16 KOs) is also on the bill, and the Californian can take his flyweight contest against Rocco Santomauro (22-1, 6 KOs) on the scorecards.
Jorge Chavez (6-0, 5 KOs) is in eight round action, and the San Diego-based featherweight can stop Christian Lorenzo (3-4, 1 KO) inside schedule.

Super welterweight prospect Anthony Saldivar (3-0, 1 KO) should stay unbeaten, with an early win against Jerome Clayton (2-1-1, 2 KOs).
