On Friday, February 25, at the Doubletree Hotel in Ontario, California, Thompson Boxing Promotions is back with a stellar group of the sport’s premier young talent that is ready to inject some “New Blood” back into the sweet science. In the main event of this hard-hitting seven-bout card, Riverside’s Jose “El Niño” Reynoso, will storm into Ontario to battle veteran Santos Pakau in an eight round junior welterweight bout. The co-feature, scheduled for eight rounds in the super bantamweight division, pits unbeaten Efrain Esquivias Jr. against Shawn Nichol.
Tickets for “NEW BLOOD” are priced at $75, $45, and $30. They are available now and may be purchased by calling 714-935-0900.
A native of Mexicali who now fights out of Riverside, California, 26-year old Jose Reynoso (13-3-1, 2 KOs) is a skilled boxer on the rise who crashed onto fight fans’ radar in 2010 with his back-to-back victories over unbeatens Aris Ambriz and Hector Serrano. The eighth round knockout of Serrano last September earned Reynoso the WBC CABOFE junior welterweight title, and on February 25th, he will continue on his journey to the top against Pakau.
New Zealand product Santos Pakau (27-6-2, 10 KOs) has been battling with the best for nearly 11 years now, establishing a reputation as a hard-nosed competitor who is willing to test himself against anyone at anytime. Now based in Spokane, Washington, the 27-year old has been in the ring with former world champions Randall Bailey and Paul Williams, and now he’s looking to be a stiff test for Reynoso.
Former amateur star Efrain Esquivias Jr. (11-0, 7 KOs) is a fan favorite at the Doubletree in Ontario, where he has won his last five fights, all in 2010. In his last two bouts, Esquivias showed what he can do when pressed by fellow prospects, as he knocked out 4-0 Ephraim Martinez and 4-0 Vincent Alfaro. On February 25th, the Carson, California product takes on Lakewood, Colorado’s Shawn Nichol (5-2, 5 KOs), who has plenty of power and the will power to derail the soon to be super bantamweight prospect.
In undercard action, the King is back, as Colton knockout artist Artemio “The King” Reyes (9-1, 8 KOs) returns in a six round welterweight bout against Ensenada, Mexico’s Francisco Rios Gil (11-14, 7 KOs). The 24-year old Reyes, who is sporting an eight-fight winning streak that includes six wins in less than two rounds, plans on making the 24-year old Gil his next victim.
Ontario’s own Jonathan Arellano (6-0-1, 1 KO) will put his unbeaten record up for grabs in a six round bantamweight matchup against an opponent to be announced.
In a four round junior bantamweight clash, Miguel Diaz (3-0, 2 KOs) will travel from Allentown, Pennsylvania to test his wares against Fontana’s Frank Gutierrez (2-8-1, 1 KO).
An intriguing six round featherweight bout will see unbeaten La Puente product Abraham Lopez (12-0, 10 KOs) taking on Mexican vet Martin Armenta (15-26-3, 11 KOs), and in the four round opener, it’s a battle of undefeated junior welterweight prospects as Londonderry, New Hampshire’s Jhon Ortega (2-0-1, 2 KOs) battles Tucson’s Rudy Gamez (1-0).
