Danny Roman (18-2-1, 6 KOs) weighed in at 122 lbs., while challenger Christian Esquivel (28-9, 21 KOs) checked in at 122.6 lbs. during Thursday’s weigh in, for the headline event at New Blood. The Roman-Esquivel match up is the featured bout on Thompson Boxing Promotions’ sixteen year anniversary show. The 10-round, “New Blood” main event originates this Friday, May 20, from the Doubletree Hotel in Ontario, Calif.
In addition to defending his 122-pound title, Roman seeks to extend his win streak to eleven while also holding onto, or improving upon, the number fourteen ranking by the WBA.
In the co-feature, former Olympian Taras Shelestyuk (13-0, 8 KOs) of Ukraine weighed in at 147 lbs., and challenger Erick Martinez (11-4-1, 5 KOs) of Mexico came in at 145.7 lbs. The 10-round fight has championship implications, as Shelestyuk and Martinez will vie for the WBA International Welterweight Title.
Shelestyuk is co-promoted through Thompson Boxing Promotions and Banner Promotions.
