On June 29, Nick Casal (22-4-1, 17 KOs) and Russian born, Ruslan Provodnikov (21-1, 14 KOs), headline the main event on ESPN “Friday Night Fights”. The battle-tested veterans will square off in a 10-round bout for the vacant WBO Inter-Continental light welterweight title. The fight will take place at the Seneca Niagara Events Center in Niagara Falls, N.Y.. Banner Promotions, in conjunction with Boxing360 will jointly promote the event.
Born and raised in Niagara Falls, Casal is looking forward to fighting in his hometown for the first time as a professional. “It’s exciting for me to finally be fighting at home,” he said. “As an amateur you always envision fighting at home, but it doesn’t always work out that way. I turned pro in 2004 and all my fights have been elsewhere. I’m excited that there will be a lot of family and friends in attendance. I can’t wait to put on a great show for everyone. I’m feeling great and I’ll be ready to go.”
In his last fight, Casal dazzled those in attendance at STAPLES Center in Los Angeles on the undercard of Dawson vs. Hopkins, when he scored a stunning third round knockout against then-unbeaten Michael Anderson (11-1-1, 9 KOs).
Said Boxing360 promoter Mario Yagobi, “Nick has been on a tear in his last few fights. His determination to get back into title contention is very clear. It’s very difficult to stop the will of a hungry fighter and Casal is starving. I have big plans for him if he can get past Provodnikov.”
“Provodnikov is a dangerous fighter and I’ll be working overtime in the gym to be prepared,” Casal said. “I want to thank my promoter Mario Yagobi and Boxing360 for putting this fight together. It hasn’t been easy getting opponents to step in the ring with me, so I’m extremely pleased that this fight is signed and delivered.”
