The Lone Star State will play host to an exciting tripleheader featuring two world championship fights and a grudge rematch between former world champions that’s been building for over six years. Roman “Rocky” Martinez will take on challenger Mikey Garcia, the undefeated phenom, in the main event, with Martinez defending his WBO Super Featherweight Strap.
In the co-feature, Nonito “Filipino Flash” Donaire takes on Vic “Raging Bull” Darchinyan for the second time. The two met way back at Flyweight, with Donaire scoring the first signature win of his career.
The third exciting fight pits former U.S. Olympians Vanes Martirosyan and Demetrius Andrade against one another for the vacant WBO Junior Middleweight title.
The official opening press conference to announce this exciting card will be held Wednesday, at the American Bank Center. We’ll have more details on the fight, and quotes and photos from the event at that time. George Foreman will also be in attendance, along with Bob Arum.
The entire tripleheader will be broadcast on HBO Boxing After Dark.
It’s nice to finally see official confirmation on this card, especially Donaire vs. Darchinyan II, because Donaire has been out of action for so long. Also, Andrade-Martirosyan is a very intriguing clash in that division as well, and it’s always fun to see Mikey Garcia in action. So really, this is a very exciting three-fight lineup for HBO that night!
