Vic Darchinyan has finally landed his long-awaited rematch against Nonito Donaire. The comebacking Filipino Flash will be seeing action for the first time since his disappointing loss to Guillermo Rigondeaux. The Donaire vs. Darchinyan rematch has been slotted for November 9th, and will be televised as part of a tripleheader on HBO.
The other bouts on the same card will include Mikey Garcia vs. Roman Martinez and Demetrius Andrade vs. Vanes Martirosyan.
Donaire and his team have been searching for the right opponent to make their comeback fight against. Darchinyan was always one of the prime candidates, but there had been some negotiating snags before they were able to finalize the fight.
Namely, Darchinyan and his team didn’t want the fight at Featherweight, but Donaire and his team have been steadfast that he is moving up to 126 lbs. At the end of the day, that’s where the fight will be held, and Darchinyan must be eager to get a chance at revenge.
He was on the wrong end of a devastating knockout loss to Donaire at Flyweight. At the time, Darchinyan was the dominant champion, and the win exploded Donaire into stardom, and remains one of the signature moments of his career.
Even though Donaire’s style is clearly well-suited to take on the tough and awkward Darchinyan, this is a challenging comeback fight, and Darchinyan has regained some momentum in his career as of late. So it should be a good one to watch, and as part of a fun tripleheader with Garcia vs. Martinez and Andrade vs. Martirosyan, it should be a very entertaining event as well.
