A crowd of 500 people gathered to watch local hero Erik Skoglund (22-0, 11 KOs) and his opponent Oleksandr Cherviak (15-4-1, 5 KOs) weigh-in today on the steps of the Nyköping Town Hall ahead of their fight on Saturday night at the Rosvalla Stora Ishallen at the Nyköpings Arenor in Nyköping, Sweden.
The interest is unsurprising, as their fight signals the return of big-time boxing to Sweden, with it being the first over championship distance since Jimmy Ellis retained his heavyweight title with a controversial fifteen round decision against Floyd Patterson in 1968.
With both fighters making weight the stage is set for Team Sauerland’s historic Swedish show tomorrow night in Nyköping.
