Olympic spots on the line as AIBA’s APB action continues July 10 in China

On July 10 in Guiyang, China the second round of action continues in Cycle 1 of AIBA Pro Boxing (APB).

Cycle I, Round 2 will produce 40 bouts across all ten weight categories, as the boxers in the top tier of competition will compete to earn a quota place for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, while also competing for the opportunity to fight their respective APB Champions in World Title Matches in September 2015.

Therefore, the Round 2 matches of Cycle I will be Olympic Qualifying Events, and will determine the contender for each of the APB World Titles.

“The beginning of APB Cycle I Round 2 represents an amazing opportunity for boxing fans all over the world to catch an early viewing of some of the world class competitors who will be competing in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Through APB, we are providing every boxer with the opportunity to cultivate a transparent professional career in boxing while also maintaining their eligibility for Olympic competition, and Round 2 will signify this perfectly when ten boxers qualify for Rio 2016 in an APB ring,” said AIBA President Dr Ching Kuo-Wu.

APB Cycle I matches consists of Round 1, Round 2 (Olympic Qualification Round) and World Title Matches. Matches represent 8 rounds of competition in Round 1 and 2 and 12 rounds in World Title Matches, which will take place in September 2015.
