Figueroa vs. DeMarco Fight Preview:
This Saturday, Mexico’s Antonio DeMarco will clash with undefeated Texan Omar Figueroa at the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas. The bout promises to be intriguing due to the come forward and exchange fighting styles of these two pugilists, promising action and a potential knock out ending.
Both fighters are former lightweight titlists and are now campaigning at super lightweight. Although DeMarco is returning from two back-to-back losses and a brief retirement, some would say it’s still Figueroa who is in the position of needing to prove himself against a weathered but hungry veteran in DeMarco. This will be the second fight at super lightweight for Figueroa and the fifth fight for DeMarco north of the lightweight division.

Figueroa vs. DeMarco Preview & Analysis
Figueroa is an exciting fighter to see in the ring mainly due to his punch output, however his mettle wasn’t tested until he became a titlist at lightweight. His strengths in the ring are his stamina, conditioning and his all-around offensive skills. After a history of struggling to make weight at lightweight, he looks more comfortable at super lightweight, where we saw him beat Ricky Burns in his last outing.
DeMarco is more experienced in the ring, having been through fights with fighters such as Adrien Broner, the late Edwin Valero and Jorge Linares to name a few. He put up a hell of a fight against Jessie Vargas over a year ago and suffered a loss to Rances Barthelemy this past June; a fight that briefly sent him into retirement.
With the bravery and grace under pressure both fighters have displayed, this is a must see fight for fight fans regardless of who’s being rooted for. In this instance, we get to see a bull or panther in “Panterita” Figueroa go up against a determined Matador in DeMarco.
Figueroa vs. DeMarco Prediction
The first round may be a feel out round, or perhaps not. Figueroa has a two-inch arm reach advantage but he is the shorter of the two fighters; the first minute of the fight we will see both fighters size each other up and then a fight will begin. Figueroa will remain composed but will press the action and try to get inside and attack DeMarco’s body.
DeMarco will stay in and trade punches with Figueroa. Figueroa will attack with left hooks to the body and DeMarco will respond with stiff right hooks to Figueroa’s head.
As the fight continues and the fighters enter the middle rounds, the fight will be a give and take boxing match. Figueroa will try to stay in the pocket and DeMarco will box, using his jab and lateral movement. Both fighters have shown the ability to create angles; Figueroa will have an edge there but DeMarco has shown that he has timing on his punches, an attribute that will lead to a very close, seesaw battle in which the victor will be the one with a stronger will and a more tactical fight plan.
Prediction: Antonio Demarco UD
