In response to all of the latest big news and shakeups, including Richard Schaefer leaving the company, and Floyd Mayweather taking his business with him, Oscar De La Hoya decided it was time to get in front of this mess, and speak to the public. So he fired back with a statement… a statement which was hilariously brief, vague and basically without meaning. Check it out right here:
Golden Boy Promotions is moving ahead on all fronts. We look forward to continuing and expanding our key position in the boxing world and to providing the public with the very best the sport has to offer.
Well, thanks Oscar! I would have thought you were giving up on this whole “boxing promotion” thing, and your company, Golden Boy, will simply cease to exist.
Of course you’re going to move ahead on all fronts and look to grow your company. But tell us something we didn’t know!
Tell us which fighters you have under contract, and why you don’t need Schaefer and/or Mayweather. Tell us about a big planned event with Top Rank and Bob Arum, or about how you still have Showtime locked up. Tell us that Schaefer has a non-compete clause, or that Al Haymon has a big fat lawsuit coming down the pike from your direction.
But no, we didn’t get anything except a statement which, by lacking any and all of that, was better off simply not being said.
