Recapping Pacquiao Margarito 24 7 Episode 3:
Manny Pacquiao vs. Antonio Margarito is less than a week away. On Saturday night, Pacquiao vs. Margarito 24/7 episode 3 aired on HBO for the first time. Here’s a recap of the show and what happened as we move ahead to their junior middleweight title showdown on HBO PPV.
Before we get underway with the new stuff for Pacquiao vs. Margarito 24/7 episode 3, we look back at what happened last week. Roach hasn’t been happy with camp, and Margarito has been easy going but working hard. The distractions keep building for Pacquiao, and his team has been worried.
And we’re back to the start of Pacquiao Margarito 24 7 episode 3, and Pacquiao is back from his quick trip to Vegas. Pacquiao gets to sparring for a full 12 rounds, working against four partners who come back in to stay fresh as Manny tires. Roach says its Pacquiao’s best day so far, with his speed, power and distance all being there.
We hear from Rashad Holloway, one of his sparring partners. He jokes with Pacquiao about getting his elbow hurt, but we hear from him really because he sparred with Margarito two years ago. He says that Margarito is a really heavy handed guy, and he got hit in the right eye during one session that almost ended his career.
He said he knew something was wrong immediately, and his orbital bone was basically smashed from the hit. Following the hand wrapping scandal, Holloway began wondering if Margarito was using illegal wraps during their sparring due to the severity of the blow.
Margarito says that people can keep on talking, he’s heard it all for two years, but he doesn’t cheat, and he will show everyone what he’s made out of on November 13th. It’ll feel like he’s hitting him with illegal wraps, but there won’t be anything there.
Antonio is also sparring with a rotating cast of four fighters. Everyone he is sparring with is a southpaw to help prepare him. One of his partners is in there to imitate Pacquiao’s style, and we see him doing the familiar cadence of the Pacquiao hop on his toes.
Trainer Robert Garcia says that Pacquiao backs up easily, and that Margarito’s pressure will be perfect for that, taking advantage of those times when Manny isn’t protecting himself completely. Garcia says that in training he’s trying to beat up on Margarito to get him to respond and get him fully ready.
We see a profusely sweating Margarito saying he feels good, he’s ready, and everything coming from Pacquiao’s camp right now is excuses, and he doesn’t believe it. He’s just focusing on getting ready and getting in the ring at fight time, and nothing else.
We’re back at the Wild Card Gym with Team Pacquiao, and Pacquiao and his crew hop in a limo to get to the Jimmy Kimmel show, and we see some footage of that. Two nights later, Pacquiao’s wife shows up in LA, and they head over to their mansion. She looks around and checks on the cleanliness on everything, and we learn his four kids are still in the Philippines.
Now we’re in La Colonia neighborhood, where Garcia was brought up and where his boxing academy is now located. Margarito enjoys the gym and feels like he has been working with Garcia for years because of how good of a fit they are. The gym isn’t being used just for the Tijuana Tornado however, a whole flock of neighborhood kids train their after school each day.
Garcia says that all kids who are at his gym and not on the streets are champions already. One of those kids is Brandon Rios, who got started with Garcia six years ago when he says by his own admission was on his way to be a fuck up or a nobody.
Rios says that Garcia and his wife took him like he was family. He’s still a regular at the Garcia house, and a bunch of fighters and their families are there for a Halloween party. In the evening, Margarito, his wife and his friends show up as well for the get together.
Now we’re at a shop in Hollywood near the Wild Card Gym that is all about Manny Pacquiao merchandise and memorabilia, having just about everything you could imagine. Manny’s at the gym, and he says he is at 100% with his speed, power, movement and everything else. He’s very happy with where he’s at, and he’s ready.
Ariza says that Pacquiao is in shape, but not in Manny Pacquiao shape. Pacquiao has decided to not gain weight in the final days of training, instead focusing on retaining his speed. He’s going to stay at 147 or 148 lbs for his speed and power. Ariza says Pacquiao was at 153 lbs in training for Clottey, and he’s worried about the change. Roach says that Pacquiao knows best and he trusts him.
They are expecting to be out-weighed on fight night by about 20 lbs. Pacquiao knows that, and the plan is all about using his speed to his advantage. He says Margarito is slow, and Roach says that he thought this was a tough fight, but he doesn’t really think so anymore because of how he’s looking.
Camp Margarito is more laid back, and Garcia’s family takes it to his car to prank him. When Garcia works with Margarito, he wears two layers of body guards because Margarito was hurting him with just a single protector. Garcia wants to focus on those body shots, because Margarito throws them hard, and Pacquiao has been knocked out to the body in the past. He says he has no doubt that Margarito will get a late round stoppage.
Margarito says he doesn’t know how strong or powerful Pacquiao is, but he won’t be as strong as a real super welterweight. Margarito steps on the scale after a session and he’s 154 lbs. He wants the fight to be here right now so he can get in that ring. He believes in himself, and he feels better than ever.
What separates the good from the best? We see a training montage of both men as this question is poised. Roach says the real tornado is Pacquiao, and that they will knock him out. Margarito says once the bell rings, he’s sure Pacquiao will be asking himself, what did I get myself into? Pacquiao laughs and says let’s get it on! It’s less than a week away now, and that wraps of Pacquiao Margarito 24/7 episode 3.
