Rumored Dates for Mayweather vs. Pacquiao Include November 6th and 13th
The latest news in the Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather fight saga is that the fight could be back on the table. Of course, it has long been the fight that fans have clamored for. Now two big hurdles have been moved out of the way as we start to head back down the path of seeing the bout made.
The first of those hurdles was Manny Pacquiao’s recent election bid. He easily won his Congressional election, and took home his prized seat without too much of a contest from the incumbent.
The second of those obstacles was Floyd Mayweather’s fight against Shane Mosley. Mayweather dominated the fight in impressive fashion, and captured the attention of the mainstream media by doing so. Additionally, both he and Mosley complied with Olympic style testing without issue, furthering his cause and strengthening his negotiating stance.
It’s also worth mention that Mayweather vs. Mosley sold 1.4 million pay-per-views, a very impressive figure that once again raises Mayweather’s status in negotiations.
Bob Arum has announced that on either November 6th or November 13th Manny Pacquiao will fight again. It seems like November 13th would be the favored date, and if Pacquiao vs. Mayweather gets made, Jerry Jones wants the date and promises to put 100,000 fans into his seats. Both sides have announced they want the fight, but until they negotiate a solution to their earlier conflicts regarding drug testing, nothing will be done.
The growing consensus within the boxing community and the sporting world is that if Pacquiao does not have anything to hide, then he should agree to the testing. Point blank, it’s a fight that absolutely must happen for the sport and for the legacy of both men. Additionally, both men will have more than $50 million reasons to arrive at some kind of agreement.
Of course, we have all been down this road before. Pacquiao vs. Mayweather was supposed to happen this March 13th, and for two or three months there was a media war with near daily updates about the fight taking place or whether it would collapse.
So color me skeptical. I’ll believe in the Mayweather vs. Pacquiao fight happening in November when I see a press conference held announcing the fight. Until then, everything else is just rumor and talk, and some fire and smoke from the hot stove. Still, eight months later is better than never.
