Denmark’s biggest boxing event, the Nordic Fight Night hits Kjellerup on May 28 with Patrick Nielsen (28-1, 14 KOs) headlining an action-packed show at the Arena Midt. Nielsen returns following a third-round technical knockout victory over his domestic rival Rudy Markussen, and the 25 year-old super middleweight star is eager to get back in the ring as he moves closer to a title challenge.
‘’I’m looking forward to fighting again,’’ said Nieslen. ‘’It’s been full speed ahead with my training since my last fight and I’ve already begun sparring. It’s going to be fun to box in Kjellerup in front of a new crowd. I hope the people will get behind me and support me.
‘’The fans will see a highly motivated Patrick Nielsen, who will make every effort to deliver a great performance. I was pleased with what I achieved last year, but if it all works out, I know this year will be even better. I’m hungrier than ever. I want to reach the top of my division and I want to be the best. I know I’m not far from reaching that goal.’’
Nielsen will be joined in action by Denmark’s top boxing talents including Mikkel Kessler’s protégé Abdul Khattab (14-1, 4 KOs), rising lightweight star Rashid Kassem (11-0, 7 KOs) and female super bantamweight Dina Thorlsund (6-0, 4 KOs).
Thorslund, the 22 year-old from Struer, has taken the boxing world by storm since joining the paid ranks in February 2015. She celebrated her sixth victory in March with a sensational first-round knockout win over Sopio Putkaradze.
‘’My last fight went a little too fast,’’ said Thorslund. ‘’I’d like to have a bit longer in the ring this time so that I can showcase all my skills in front of the fans. My style is extremely aggressive and I like to put my opponents under enormous pressure from the beginning so that’s not always possible.
‘’I hope that I will get a tough match in Kjellerup. I can knock people out but I can also go the distance if necessary. I want an opponent who will look good on my record. I’m not afraid of anyone. Bring them on!’’
‘’We’re delighted to be bringing the Nordic Fight Night to the Arena Midt in Kjellerup,’’ said promoter Nisse Sauerland. ‘’This fantastic venue will provide a great setting for an exciting night of World-class boxing!
‘’Patrick Nielsen is back in action. He will be matched against a top-level opponent who will provide him with a final test ahead of a World title challenge later this year.
‘’As always we will have a full undercard showing the very best of Danish boxing including the latest standout star Dina Thorslund – who will be aiming for another knockout performance!’’
‘’We are very pleased that Team Sauerland has chosen Arena Midt for their next Nordic Fight Night,’’ said Arena Midt Director, Anders Hartvig.
‘’We have had boxing matches in Kjellerup twice before, and each time with great success and many people in the arena. It would be great to fill the arena with 2,500 spectators this time.
‘’Arena Midt is perfect setting for events of this nature, so we are so happy to be part of this great show, with lots of international stars in the ring.’’
