Two good fights featuring some big names in the middleweight and super middleweight divisions were held on ESPN 2’s Friday Night Fights last evening. The big names did the winning too, with Peter Manfredo and Edwin Rodriguez both bringing home wide unanimous decision victories in their respective bouts.
Edwin “La Bomba” Rodriguez, already one of the top 10 super middleweights in the world, improved his record to 18-0 with 13 knockouts by defeating Aaron Pryor Jr. The final scores of the 10 round bout were 98-91, 97-92 and 96-93. Pryor had been deducted a point in the eighth round for a foul, and falls to 15-3.
The main event featured Peter Manfredo Jr. against Daniel Edouard. Manfredo busted up Edouard en route to a wide decision win for himself, with two 97-92 scores and a 98-91 score. Edouard was dropped in the fourth round by a huge right hand, and Manfredo mostly dominated the rest of the encounter after Edouard had started forcing the action.
Manfredo now stands at 37-6, and with his name recognition and fan-friendly style, is likely to find himself in the mix for another big fight sometime soon. Edouard falls to 23-4-2.
