Yesterday in Monte Carlo, Monaco, Gennady Golovkin scored an 11th rd TKO victory over an endlessly game, but outgunned, Martin Murray. Golovkin battered Murray in the fight’s latter rounds, but Murray simply refused to give up.
The referee had to step in and save him from receiving any further punishment, and there’s lingering questions as to whether the ref, or Murray’s corner, should have ended matters even sooner. Right here, you can find a collection of Golovkin vs. Murray photos from fight night, as well as a fight night Golovkin vs. Murray video highlights reel from GGG Promotions. Take a look
So what’s next? Murray will still be in the picture for big things at middleweight, as long as he recovers physically from the beating he took here. Golovkin made it clear that he’s sticking around at 160 lbs, and that he wants a fight with Miguel Cotto. The event would be a huge, as would the paydays.
But is that what Cotto is looking for himself at this stage of his career? Going up a killer like GGG, when you’re nearing retirement and you’re far undersized in the division, isn’t exactly a “safe” choice. It’s what fight fans want though, and with the other big names occupied, it makes sense for everyone.
