Tomorrow in Stuttgart, Alexander Povetkin and Marco Huck will meet in a clash for Povetkin’s (fake) WBA heavyweight title strap. Today, they met on the scales, and the results will have an important impact on the fight itself, as Huck is a long-time cruiserweight making his debut on the heavyweight scene, and he’ll be at a significant weight disadvantage in the fight. Here are the Povetkin vs. Huck weights and photos from the weigh-in.

(Fake) WBA Heavyweight Title:

  • Alexander Povetkin: 229.25 lbs
  • Marco Huck: 209.5 lbs

EU Middleweight Title:

  • Dominik Britsch: 159.5 lbs
  • Roberto Santos: 158.75 lbs

The big issue with the Povetkin vs. Huck fight is size and weight itself, as the weigh-in figures show above. Povetkin, not a large heavyweight, outweighs Huck by 20 lbs.

Huck was the top guy at cruiserweight, but has never faced a fighter with the size and strength of Povetkin, let alone the technical skill. The last time he fought a truly classy, skilled fighter was Steve Cunningham, who defeated him.

Of course, that was years ago, and Povetkin has a completely different style. It will be up to Huck to make the fight and use his trademark aggression and activity to flummox the (fake) WBA heavyweight champ. In addition, it’s not unusual for a size difference of 20 lbs or more to exist between today’s sometimes super-sized heavyweights.

We’ll see what happens tomorrow afternoon, as fight fans stateside will be able to watch Povetkin vs. Huck live on EPIX.
