Former WBO titlist Ruslan Provodnikov was joined in his native Russia by his promoter Artie Pelullo and trainer Freddie Roach.
The three, along with manager Vadim Kornilov, are in Russia to discuss Provodnikov’s next bout, which will take place in his homeland before the end of the year.
Provodnikov has made his feelings known that he wants a rematch with Chris Algieri early in 2015.
Of course, stablemate Manny Pacquiao gets Algieri this November. So it’s unclear if Provodnikov wants Algieri even coming off a loss, or only if he were to defeat Pacquiao.
While a Pacquiao vs. Provodnikov fight has been discussed in the past too, it’s likely hard to pull off considering their time spent in the gym together, and continued status training under Freddie Roach. There are plenty of other big fights at junior welterweight for Provodnikov though.
It should be fun to see him fight in front of his fans in Russia, and hopefully they put together a worthy opponent for that match rather than a no-hoper designed to let Provodnikov kill some time with easy work. That said, Provodnikov has been through plenty of grueling ordeals and has maintained a very tough schedule as of late.
