-Shawn Estrada Goes the Distance for First Decision Win of Career-
“Knockout of the Year”? The troops at the USMC Air Station New River in Jacksonville, North Carolina would most certainly give their votes to Rico Ramos (18-0, 10 KOs) after witnessing first-hand “Suavecito’s” devastating knockout of former world title contender Heriberto Ruiz (44-10-2, 26 KOs) in the main event of “AMERICA’S HEROES: A SALUTE TO OUR VETERANS,” the “RUMBLE on the River II” show televised on ESPN2 Monday night.
Ramos, the current NABO Youth Super Bantamweight Champion from Los Angeles, California brought the standing-room only crowd of Marines to its feet when his perfectly-timed counter right-hand shot landed flush on the jaw of Ruiz sending the Mexican veteran violently down to the canvas where he was counted out. The signature win moves Ramos closer towards his goal of an eventual world title.

In the other televised pro bout on the card presented by Goossen Tutor Promotions in conjunction with ESPN, 2008 U.S. Olympian Shawn “Mano de Oro” Estrada (10-0, 9 KOs) remained unbeaten as a pro, going the distance for the first time in earning a hard-fought win over Oakland’s Tony Hirsch (12-4-1, 6 KOs). The East Los Angeles super middleweight scored a first-round knockdown and fought through adversity in overcoming a cut near his left eye in the fourth round en route to the six-round win by unanimous decision. Scores were 58-55 and 59-54 twice.
