This weekend’s boxing action was highlighted by the HBO Boxing doubleheader from Barclays Cener in Brooklyn, New York, with Ruslan Provodnikov taking on Chris Algieri, and Demetrius Andrade taking on Brian Rose.
While those two fights were very different, the big wins from Algieri and Andrade have sent each of them soaring up close to the top of their division’s rankings, with Algieri at junior welterweight and Andrade at junior middleweight. Take a look at the updated top 10 divisional rankings for those two weight classes to see where everyone is stacked up now.
With Provodnikov vs. Algieri, most fans were expecting a dominant win for Provodnikov as he killed time waiting for bigger fights. The fight may have started in that way, but Algieri ended up as the victor, surviving a few knockdowns and a terribly damaged eye to win the fight via split decision. Algieri wasn’t anywhere close to our top 10 beforehand, and was fringe top 20 if anywhere, but he explodes to the top of the division now.
As for Andrade vs. Rose, Andrade was the major favorite in the fight, and he lived up to that expectation. Andrade scored a one-sided stoppage victory, moving higher up the rankings at 154 lbs, and looking at big names and big fights for himself in the near future.
