In what would be an intriguing and entertaining clash, a Robert Guerrero vs. Keith Thurman fight is currently being discussed by Golden Boy, according to a report on RingTV.com. The potential Guerrero vs. Thurman fight would take place on November 2nd and headline a Showtime card, with Omar Figueroa potentially slated for a return as well.
Here’s what Richard Schaefer had to say about Guerrero vs. Thurman:
“I am trying to do something with a big fight on Nov. 2… I do have one fight which I think would be great for the fight fans to see, and I don’t know if I can pull it off. But that would be Robert Guerrero against Keith Thurman. I think that would be just a sensational fight, stylistically, and it would be one of those must-see-TV events. That’s one fight that I’m thinking about.”
So the bout still very much seems to be in the tentative discussion phase, but let’s see if it gets put together.
For Guerrero, it’s a chance for another high profile fight coming off his loss to Floyd Mayweather. A win here, and he firmly stamps himself right at the top of the division once again.
For Thurman, who has faced a string of largely awful opposition despite getting numerous television dates, it’s a chance to fight his first legit opponent, and potentially score what would be by far the biggest win of his career. He certainly would have the athletic tools to defeat Guerrero, however, Guerrero has a huge edge in experience and is a versatile tactician, as well as a proven tough-as-nails warrior.
Stay tuned for more updates on the potential Guerrero vs. Thurman clash. It would definitely be a bout I’d be excited to watch.
