Ronny Rios Steps Up on Friday Solo Boxeo

Christopher Martin and Gary Russell Jr. Also in Action Friday December 17th:

Unbeaten in four fights this year, rising featherweight star Ronny Rios has begun the march towards the next level of his promising career.  On Friday, December 17, at the Four Points Sheraton in San Diego, Calif., Rios will meet former IBA Featherweight World Champion Adolfo Landeros at the crossroads in the main event of the 2010 season finale of TeleFutura’s “Sólo Boxeo Tecate.”

In the co-main event, local contender Christopher Martin puts his unbeaten record on the line in an eight round featherweight bout against hard-hitting Colombian Yogli Herrera.  Also in action will be undefeated featherweight standout Gary Russell Jr. and undefeated Las Vegas product Anthony Martinez in separate bouts.

Rios vs. Landeros, an eight round featherweight bout which headlines a night of world-class professional boxing, is presented by Golden Boy Promotions and Don Chargin Productions and sponsored by Cerveza Tecate.  Doors open at 6:00pm PT and the first bell rings at 7:00pm PT and the TeleFutura broadcast begins at 11:30pm ET / 8:30pm PT (10:30pm CT).  Fans at home can also be part of the action by voting for the fighter in the main event who displayed the most character during the telecast by sending a text message to 55333.

Tickets, priced starting at $25, are on sale now and available for purchase at the Four Points Sheraton Hotel Gift Store or by calling (858) 277-8888 or (619) 420-8866.

The fiery fists of Ronny Rios (12-0, 6 KO’s) have led him to four wins in 2010, taking both his unbeaten streak and his reputation to impressive heights.  That’s not surprising, given his amateur experience and obvious talent, but what has impressed fight game insiders is the ease with which he has beaten seasoned foes like Andres Ledesma and Leivi Brea with his crushing body attack.  Next up for the Santa Ana prospect will be always tough Mexico City native Adolfo “El Terror” Landeros (20-16-1, 9 KO’s) in an eight round featherweight fight.

Affectionately known by local fight aficionados as “The SD Kid,” 24-year-old Christopher Martin (20-0-2, 6 KO’s) is looking forward to finishing the biggest year of his professional career at home in San Diego.  A diamond in the rough for much of his four-year professional stint, Martin broke free of the pack with his August win over previously unbeaten Chris Avalos.  Just a month later, Martin was just as impressive in scoring an eighth round stoppage of 29-2 Jose Luis Araiza.  On December 17, he will take on San Onofre, Colombia’s Yogli Herrera (22-13, 15 KO’s) in the evening’s eight round co-featured bout.

One of the most gifted amateurs to emerge from the United States in recent years, 22-year-old southpaw Gary Russell Jr. (13-0, 9 KO’s) has had a year to remember thus far, scoring seven wins without a loss while adding the name of former World Champion Mauricio Pastrana to his list of vanquished foes via first round TKO in July.  On December 17, the pride of Capitol Heights, Maryland hopes for his eighth win of 2010 when he takes on an opponent to be named in a six round contest.

Also featured this week is a six round bout pitting Las Vegas junior welterweight Anthony Martinez (6-0, 5 KO’s) against an opponent to be named.  A blistering puncher who has ended all of his knockout victories within two rounds, Martinez expects another spectacular finish in San Diego on Friday night.
