Alvarez Fights Again July 10th Against Luciano Cuello
Just two months removed from the biggest win of his career, 19-year-old welterweight phenom Saul “Canelo” Alvarez returns to the ring on Saturday, July 10 to put his undefeated record on the line against Luciano Cuello at the 12,000-seat Arena VFG in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico.
This 12-round bout, Alvarez’ first since a stirring ninth round TKO win over Jose Cotto on May 1, will be contested for the WBC Silver Junior Midleweight belt and aired by Televisa beginning at 10:30 pm CT. The doors open at 5:00 pm and the first bout begins at 6:00 pm.

Long considered one of boxing’s top prospects, Guadalajara’s Saul Alvarez (32-0-1, 24 KO’s) made the leap to contender in impressive fashion in May with his stoppage of longtime standout Cotto. The victory put Alvarez on the international map, but the 19-year-old had already boxing insiders with his poise and fight-ending power in the ring and his charm outside the ring. Winner of nine of his last ten bouts by knockout, Alvarez is looking to continue his winning ways with a victory over Cuello and then look for a world title shot.
A native of Buenos Aires, Argentina who now makes his home in Spain, 26-year-old Luciano “El Principito” Cuello (26-1, 12 KO’s) is looking to halt the rapid rise of Alvarez while continuing on his own road to a world title shot when the two meet on July 10. Currently riding a three-fight winning streak that includes a December 2009 win over Carlos Wiston Velasquez that earned him the interim WBC Latino welterweight title, Cuello plans on taking the WBC Silver belt and making his own case for a move to the top of the welterweight division.
