Next Saturday, the #1 middleweight and top three pound-for-pound fighter in the world, Sergio “Maravilla” Martinez (47-2-2, 26KO’s) will be putting his WBC Middleweight Diamond belt and Ring Championship on the line against undefeated European Champion “Dazzling” Darren Barker (23-0, 14KO’s) at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, NJ.
With the 10-year anniversary of 9/11 just passing, Martinez made it clear to his promoter, Lou DiBella, founder and President of DiBella Entertainment, that he wanted to do something to honor the fallen heroes of that tragic day.
“Sergio told me that he wanted to do something to honor the heroes of 9/11,” said DiBella. “We tossed around a few ideas with him, and ultimately Sergio decided that he wanted to offer discounted tickets to all members of the armed forces, both active and veterans, and all members of any first-respond units: policemen, firemen, EMT workers. It is Sergio’s way of giving back, and in honoring the anniversary of 9/11.”
