Klitschko remarks spark outrage from Asthma sufferers like Briggs
During a recent press conference, current heavyweight boxing champion and United Nations Educational and Cultural Organization (UNECO) Ambassador Vitali Klitschko stated that Asthma was, “not a deadly disease” and that Briggs, who has chronic Asthma, was “just using it as an excuse”.
Briggs, whose Fight 2 Breathe Foundation supports children and adult with Asthma, called for Klitschko’s resignation from the UNECO and demanded an apology for all Asthma sufferers. “Vitali Klitschko has disgraced this very important post with his ignorant and dangerous remarks about asthma not being a deadly disease and just a good excuse. What kind of humanitarian and scientific ambassador would
dismiss 250,000 deaths? I call on you to resign from your now disgraced Ambassadorship from UNESCO and apologize to all Asthma sufferers today!” demanded Briggs.
“It is clear this issue will not be resolved during the heavyweight championship bout on October 16, however, raising awareness about Asthma and the impact of chronic respiratory conditions on the global community is winning result.” stated Tina Marie Tyler, President, Communications & Outreach, Fight2Breathe.
