Dalton Smith became European super lightweight champion in emphatic style, as he blasted out Walid Ouizza inside a round to win the vacant belt at Nottingham Arena.
Smith (17-0, 13 KOs) had won British and Commonwealth titles and in his most recent outing, a vicious body shot knocked out the experienced Jose Zepeda as Smith won the vacant WBC Silver title in five rounds. Ouizza (19-3, 8 KOs) won the vacant WBC Francophone strap last July, clearly outpointing Bryan Fanga.
An accumulation of punches had Ouizza down in the opener, and on the resumption, he was down again from some sharp Smith punches.
The visitor’s race was run on the restart, as a sweeping left hook forced the referee to call a halt to the action.
Smith is ranked at two with the WBC and called for the winner of the March 1 clash between champion Alberto Puello and number one contender, Sandor Martin.
“Do you see how this belt’s silver?,” the 27-year-old told DAZN.
“I want to turn that gold and I’m hoping [WBC President] Mauricio’s watching tonight and I hope I made him proud.”
Scotty sees off Motu
Ellie Scotney defended her IBF and WBO super bantamweight titles, and added the IBO belt with a wide points win against Mea Motu (20-1, 8 KOs).
Scotney (10-0) ran out a handy winner by three scores of 99-91.
Walker rallies to blast out Scarff
A grudge match at welterweight saw Conah Walker become the British and Commonwealth champion, as he halted Harry Scarff in the penultimate round of their clash.
Scarff (13-4, 3 KOs) dominated the contest, but Walker (15-3-1, 6 KOs) found the equaliser, ruthlessly putting the punches together to put an end to the bout.
