Unified welterweight world champion, Errol Spence Jr has advised Canelo Alvarez to swerve a rematch with Dmitry Bivol and remain at 168lbs.
Canelo called for a rematch with Bivol after retaining his undisputed super middleweight titles with a unanimous decision win over John Ryder at Akron Stadium in Mexico on Saturday.
Alvarez suffered just a first defeat since losing to Floyd Mayweather Jr in 2013 when he was comprehensively outpointed by Bivol last May and Spence Jr insists the Mexican great should avoid facing the WBA light heavyweight champion again and instead remain at super middleweight, where the likes of David Benavidez lie in wait.
“I think he should stay away from Bivol,” Spence Jr told ESNews.
“He should stay away from Beterbiev too.
“Go back to 168 and handle your business.
“I feel like 175 is pushing it man.
“He throws a lot of power punches. I don’t think his power is really effective at 175 like it would do at the little weights.”

Spence Jr, who holds the WBC, IBF and WBA ‘super’ belts, confirmed that he has held positive talks for a long-awaited clash with WBO titlist, Terence Crawford, one of the most highly-anticipated match-ups in the sport.
The unbeaten American rivals have long been on a collision course and the Texas native revealed that he has spoken to Crawford directly and remains confident that the bout will finally get finalised after years of talk.
The 33-year-old has previously been linked with an unlikely meeting with Alvarez and although he doesn’t rule out the fight in the future, ’The Truth’ admits the four-weight world champion is not in his immediate plans.
“Yeah I like it,” he added.
“He did alright from what I’ve seen [against Ryder].
“I’ve just seen the highlights, I didn’t see the fight.
“I definitely like it, but right now my focus is not on Canelo at all.”
