Shakur Stevenson has revealed that he confronted Floyd Schofield Sr, after he made comments accusing his team of poisoning his son.

Schofield was hospitalised on Tuesday in Riyadh after falling ill and was subsequently withdrawn from his scheduled bout with Stevenson by the British Boxing Board of Control [BBBofC].

The 22-year-old’s father and trainer had earlier suggested that the Newark man’s team was to blame for his son’s illness.

In a now-deleted post on Schofield’s X account, which is believed to be run by his father, it read: “They poisoned my son.”

Schofield Sr then argued that a masseuse who is part of Stevenson’s team “wiped a cream on my son.”

Stevenson says he spoke to his rival’s father following the comments.

“I ran into his dad,” the 27-year-old told Ring Magazine.

“I heard the poison excuse, I asked him.

“I said, ‘yo, what’s up with this poison s***?’

“He kind of gave me his run down and he kind of let me know and gave me a hint that the fight wasn’t going to happen.”

‘Kid Austin’ was absent from the Grand Arrivals event on Tuesday, with Stevenson’s promoter, Eddie Hearn revealing that he was likely training to make a check weight on Wednesday, imposed by the BBBofC.

Schofield Sr posted a worrying video of his son in hospital, but his promoter Golden Boy later confirmed that he was discharged from hospital.

“Yesterday, Floyd “Kid Austin” Schofield Jr. fell ill and was transported to the hospital as a precautionary measure.

“In the interest of Schofield’s health and safety, the British Boxing Board of Control made the decision to cancel his scheduled bout against Shakur Stevenson.

“Schofield has since been discharged from the hospital and is awaiting the results of his medical evaluation.”

Despite the comments, Schofield Sr seemed to retract them in a post made on X on Wednesday.

“In all due respect we cannot blame Shakur or his team.

“I believe Shakur wanted to really fight KID.

“We wish Shakur and his team success.

“I hope we can fight in the near future.

“All things are forgiven.”

Stevenson will instead defend his WBC lightweight world title against undefeated Brit, Josh Padley who pulled off a stunning upset of Mark Chamberlain in September.
