Boxing legend Sugar Ray Leonard will be a member of the Dancing with the Stars 2011 cast. He’s one of 11 cast members for the upcoming spring 2011 season of the show, and he’s already getting prepared. He plans on using the same psychological tricks and mental preparation that he did when he was in the ring, according to quotes and interviews he has made about his appearance on the show.
That means that we might be able to expect some special dance moves from Sugar Ray on the Dancing with the Stars 2011 show. He can break out the “No Mas” where he frustrates his dancing partner so bad that she leaves the stage suddenly. He can pull the “10 second special” where right at the end of the dance, when it looks like he wasn’t winning, he’ll break out a burst of excitement to steal the segment in the eyes of some of the judges. And, of course, he’ll probably retire two or three times during filming so that when he does in fact appear in the next episode, everyone is that much more excited to see him there.
He’s not the only athlete on the Dancing with the Stars 2011 cast. NFL player Hines Ward will be on the season, and the Karate Kid himself, Ralph Macchio, amongst the usual sampling of entertainers and personalities.
Of course, Sugar Ray is not the first boxer to appear on the show. Laila Ali, Evander Holyfield and Floyd Mayweather have all had their turn on Dancing with the Stars. Ray Leonard will look to become the first boxer to represent the sport in the winner’s circle, however. The best performance for any of the group was Laila Ali, who finished in third place in her season.
