Josh Taylor has set his sights on a future showdown with unified welterweight world champion, Jaron Ennis.
Taylor believes ‘Boots’ Ennis will most likely move up to super welterweight after he dismantled Eimantas Stanionis into a sixth round retirement in Atlantic City on Saturday to add the WBA strap to his IBF belt.
‘The Tartan Tornado’ makes his welterweight debut on May 24 against former British and Commonwealth titlist, Ekow Essuman in Glasgow and admits he’d welcome a meeting with the Philadelphia man.
“I think Boots Ennis is probably going to move up,” the 34-year-old told IFLTV.
“But if he doesn’t, it would be great to have a fight against him.

“It would be fantastic to get a shot at him and prove myself at welterweight.
“That would be a great opportunity.
“It’s looking good. It’s looking bright and there’s plenty of opportunities there for me.”

The Edinburgh southpaw looks to get back to winning ways after successive defeats to Teofimo Lopez and Jack Catterall, whom he lost to in a rematch in his last outing last May.
The WBO international title is on the line at the SSE Hydro and victory will lead to a future shot at WBO champion, Brian Norman Jr, while Taylor is also ranked in the top 10 of the WBC behind champion, Mario Barrios.
Taylor, who won the undisputed super lightweight championship in 2021, insists his aim is to become a two-weight world champion, but concedes he must defeat Essuman to keep those hopes alive.

“That’s the goals and that’s why I’m still in the game,” he added.
“To chase more greatness.
“To achieve more greatness.

“That’s the plans and first I’ve got to get Ekow out of the way and he’s standing in my way of doing it.
“So I’ve got to make sure I get him out the way.”
