Thompson Boxing Promotions celebrates their rising stars as they continue to make their way as tomorrow’s champions. The first pangs of victory dropped just moments before the first installment of the 2011 “New Blood” series began when talk of #4 featherweight Juan Carlos Burgos’ (26-1, 19 KOs) convincing defeat over veteran Frankie Archuleta (27-8-1, 14 KOs) began to circulate in the ballroom.
Then Featherweight contender Juan Carlos Burgos bounced back from a title fight loss against former bantamweight standout Hozumi Hasegawa in a title bid last December with a Sports Center highlight-worthy second-round knockout of Frankie Archuleta in the main event of a Friday Night Fights broadcast from Tulsa, Oklahoma. Burgos dropped Archuleta (27-8-1, 14 KOs) three times in the second round, forcing referee Gary Ritter to halt the bout at the 2:33 mark. Because of the dramatic knockdowns, the stoppage made the Top 10 Plays of ESPN’s Sports Center (No. 6) on Friday night.

The non-stop action waged on as fight fans witnessed repeated victories in a spectacular night of boxing in the Inland Empire.
In the main event, Reynoso dominated Santos Pakau throughout the entire fight, winning an eight round unanimous decision before a packed crowd at the Doubletree Hotel Events Center in Ontario, CA.
All three judges scored the bout in favor of Reynoso, with scores of 80-71, 80-71, and 79-72. Reynoso, from Riverside, CA, improved to 14-3-1, 2 KO’s.
“Usually, I adjust to the fighter during the fight,” said Reynoso after the fight in discussing his fight plan against Pakau. “I just tried to work the jab. He was very crafty. At times, he would foul me with his head. I knew I had him in the second round, and once I knew he was not going to win, I just boxed his from the outside. A lot of credit goes to my trainer Ruben Castanon for the last couple of fights.”
“I think he’s got a good future,” said Alex Camponovo, general manager and matchmaker of Thompson Boxing Promotions. “He controlled the fight, he’s an experienced fighter, and he is in a rich (140-pound) division. I think he’s ready for an ESPN2 fight soon.”
A left hook to the body by Reyes dropped Gil to the canvas. Referee Ray Corona reached the count of 10 at 1:36.
Featherweight Abraham Lopez 13-0, 10 KO’s won a six round unanimous decision over Felipe Almanza. The aggressive Lopez landed the more effective punches over Almanza. All three judges scored the 60-54 in favor of Lopez.
Bantamweight Jonathan Arellano remained unbeaten with a unanimous decision over Francis Ruiz. Arellano (7-0-1, 1 KO) proved his talent by effectively working at Ruiz both from the inside and outside.
All three judges had Arellano winning with scores of 60-54, 60-64, and 59-55.
Junior welterweight Jhon Ortega (3-0-1, 3 KO’s) stopped Rudy Gamez in the third round of a scheduled four round bout. Referee Ray Corona stepped in and stopped the bout at 1:19.
