After dispatching of Australia’s Brock Jarvis in three rounds on Wednesday, Keith Thurman has called for a blockbuster fight against Ryan Garcia.

There is currently a weight class separating Garcia, who makes his welterweight debut against Rolly Romero in May, and Thurman, whose win over Jarvis was his first outing at light middleweight.

‘One Time’ has been linked to a showdown with former world champion Tim Tszyu, providing the Australian emerges unscathed from his comeback bout against Joey Spencer next month.

Should he be victorious against Romero, Garcia looks to be headed towards a rematch with Devin Haney, who takes on Jose Ramirez on the same bill at Times Square on May 2nd.

However, speaking to FightHype, Thurman has implored ‘King Ry’ to take him on, before warning the Californian that he is playing a risky game by continuing to move up the weight classes.

“If Thurman could ever get in the ring with Ryan Garcia you know I’d sign that!

“Ryan thinks he’s the big, bad boy and wants to move up and fight big names.

“But at the end of the day, this is just boxing. I’m looking for having fun, and I’m looking for entertaining fights for myself and the fans.

“Ryan’s more of a 140 fighter, up top 147, which makes it easier.

“It’s very challenging to keep moving up and to be in that small percentage of successful world champions.”

At 35-years-old and coming off three years of inactivity, there were plenty of question marks over what version of Thurman would turn up against Jarvis in Sydney.

However, the former unified welterweight champion went some way towards silencing the doubters as he secured a highlight-reel KO at The Hordern Pavilion.

Unfortunately for the Clearwater favourite, he is unlikely to be near the top of Garcia’s hitlist, though there does seem to be plenty of big money options for him in the thriving 154lb division.
